Choosing Your Wedding Venue

Choosing your wedding venue is probably one of the hardest things you have to do, as you may already have a picture in your head of the perfect venue and how you want your wedding to be, your choice of venue will need to accommodate all those things.

First of all you will need to think about the ceremony, are you getting married in a church and just require a reception venue, or do you need a venue that will do both? What is your budget? Decide on your budget before visiting any venue this way you won’t spend more than you can afford, it will also give you an idea of the types of venues that will be most suitable for you.

How many guests do you intend on inviting? All venues are different and have a limit to the number of guest that they can allow in. Remember you will need to include any extra guests that you will be inviting for the evening reception.

What type of venue are you looking to have your wedding in, A hotel, castle, barn, banqueting hall or a marquee, this may be important if your having a specific theme. How far do you want your guest to travel?

In which location will the wedding be held? Obviously some guest may have to travel in if they do not live in the same town as you, but do you want all of your guest to travel if you choose a venue in a completely different location?

Did you want guests to have an option of staying at the venue? This will be a good idea if guests are traveling. If this is something you want, the venue you decide to choose will need to accommodate the right amount of people.

Do you want exclusive wedding rights or at least parts of the venue which are exclusive to you and your guest only? Some wedding venues have a number of weddings on the same day, you may want the option of it just being yours.

What kind of entertainment did you plan on having , does the venue allow for it?

Do you want to use on-site caterers or would you prefer to use an external catering company? and does the venue allow you to do this? Some may want you to use their caterers and menus.

What are the surrounding gardens like? Are there some good spots for your photographs to be taken? What is the interior decoration like? Is it something you can work with. will the colours already in the room go with your wedding colours?

Remember that your choice of venue is extremely important to your day, so don’t rush your decision and make sure that you are 100 % happy before you agree to anything!
